That 70s Vibe

Retro looks have been popping up a lot in blogs and magazine editorials. I put my own modern spin on the flare jean, which in my mind is a 70’s staple. These ones have been perfectly worn in, which accentuates the cute folded-pocket detailing.

It’s funny the way spring announces itself. It’s almost as though Mother Nature has a hard time making up her mind; a few days this week have been sunny, like in these photos, while others have been a clash of wind and rain. This means that sunglasses should always be on hand, in the case that the weather should suddenly change. I’m in love with these new ones from Burberry. The tortoiseshell pattern is definitely a nod to retro designs, while the shape is perfectly classic (evoking images of Audrey Hepburn) and the large lenses decidedly modern.

I’m happy for the warm weather, and the fact that I no longer need a heavy overcoat any time I go outside. That said, it’s still a bit too chilly to go completely without some sort of jacket. This is where this quilted number from H&M comes in. It is a perfect weight for sunny but cool spring days. Plus, the pattern is fun without being hard to work with.

Denim is really having its moment right now, with new and innovative designs coming out on all the catwalks. That said, many old trends are being revitalized; like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, the flare jean is having a major comeback. And for good reason, in my opinion. Flare jeans are super flattering on everyone; the wide leg balances big hips on curvy women and creates curves on less curvy women. The large legs are also elongating, which is a blessing to all us petite ladies! Plus, these jeans can be worn in true 70’s fashion, with a bohemian feel or with a large-collared shirt, but they can also be dressed up and modernized.

So is the retro look here to stay? I don’t know, but I am really excited to bring out all my old flare jeans again!
