With a new year ahead of us, it is the perfect time to switch up our makeup looks, especially if one of your New Years Resolutions is to try new things or step outside of your comfort zone. Perhaps the easiest and least daunting is to use coloured eyeliners in place of the usual black eyeliner or brown eyeliner. Try bright pops of colour, jewel tones, and metallics.
White eyeliner is perhaps the least expected way to change up your look. White is universally flattering, playful, and brightening. I lined my eyes as close to the lash line as possible and extended it just past the end of my eye to create a subtle flick. Then, I cleaned up the top edge with a cotton bud. Not a fan of the plain white? Go over it with black liquid liner so that only the top edge of white is visible.
Rose gold eyeliner is a beautiful way to switch up your eyeliner. Although initially quite understated, the metallic sheen draws attention and light to the eye, making it look brighter and more awake. A swipe of this along the upper lash line is perfect for women who wear glasses; or, bring it along the bottom waterline with a smokier eye look for an unexpected twist.
If overly bright colours aren’t your thing, opt for a jewel-toned liner this year. Green eyed ladies, move towards purples: amethyst, mauve, and orchid. Women with brown or blue eyes, you’re lucky, as you can wear pretty much any colour out there.
She’s Got the Blues
This liner colour was very popular last summer, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still wear it. Swipe any vibrant, jewelled, or pastel blue along the upper or lower lash lines for a burst of colour. My one tip? Keep the rest of your makeup simple.
All That Glitters
This is by far my favourite eyeliner look this year. I wore it to all the Christmas and New Years festivities! Glitter is a great addition to any makeup look, whether you add a thick stripe like I did or add just enough to hint at sparkle. You can wear it on it’s own, as beauty blog The Beauty Department explains, or you can add it to another fun eyeliner look, as I did.
